So I haven't been around much, and I certainly haven't been running markets this Winter. I'm not a slacker, I promise.
Lesson learned, as far as hosting a market in my living room/studio goes. For one thing, advertising is expensive. It's worthwhile, but it's still costly. For another thing, if you're not used to coordinating groups of people with lots of things to sell, that can be a little overwhelming. Also it's hard to pass out info on the street when you're also supposed to be upstairs helping sellers, and selling yourself.
Biggest lesson of all? When it's cold out, and I mean COLD as a well-digger's ass cold, I'm not that motivated to do anything. Especially if there aren't many people on the street, or out shopping. I'm certainly not about to ask people to tromp through the snow and below zero temperatures, lugging their crafts up to my studio.
But I'm going to give it another go, I'm just waiting for the weather to get a little bit better!
Hopefully this Spring and Summer will bring more Maker's Markets, more sellers, more customers, more learning experiences, and lots of lemonade to hand out to everyone. I'm hoping that if I can do a good job of developing a following in the neighborhood, I'll be a lot more capable of hosting markets next Winter.
So look for posts once Spring starts to come around, I'll be looking for artists, makers, and crafters of all kinds to hang out with me and sell to the masses of Wicker Park!
